  • There are multiple variations of Spanish in Latin America: The Spanish of the Andes Mountains includes the mountainous regions of Ecuador, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela. Andean people are usually the kindest and most respectful people, formal when it comes to speaking and they tend to use diminutives.
  • Caribbean Spanish is deeply marked by idioms: it has a strong influence from Andalusia and the Canary Islands of Spain. This variation is typical of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, and the coastal regions of Venezuela and Colombia.
  • Paraguayan Spanish is deeply mixed with the native Guaraní language: In addition to being spoken in Paraguay, it is also common to hear it in the provinces of Misiones, Corrientes, Formosa and the Chaco.
  • Rioplatense Spanish is a dialect of the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina and Uruguay: It differs from the rest of Latin America for multiple reasons, the main one being the change of the pronoun “tú” to use “vos”, some words vary in accentuation and words with “elle” sound like “ye” and in some regions like “sh ”.
  • Spanish has 88,000 words: The dictionary of the RAE contains no less than 88,000 words. Some of them downright weird. However, although it may seem a very high figure, English surpasses it with 350,000 words.
